How To Descale Your BV-01

Overview

The descaling process removes calcium or mineral deposits that may build up inside the brewer and affect both how the brewer works as well as the taste of coffee.

Descaling Notification: After the brewer has pumped  65L (liters) of water through the heating system, (about 220 B-Pods), the descaling notice will display. At this point, the descaling process should be followed, per the instructions below. (See fig A)

Descaling Dismiss:  if you don’t have time to complete the descaling process when notified, you can temporarily override it and continue brewing. (See fig B)

Must Descale: After the brewer has pumped another 5L(70L total), the descaling process must be performed. The brewer will no longer work until the process is completed. 5L is about 20 B-Pods, assuming 10 oz cups.

Manual Descaling: If needed, the descaling process may be initiated without brewer notifications. This may be recommended if 1) filtered water has not been used and/or the water is mineral heavy; 2) brewer hasn’t been used for a while; or 3) brewer water flow is slower than usual.

Notes

  • The descaling process requires approximately 20 minutes. You will be interacting with the brewer throughout the process.
  • You will need descaling solution (available at bruvi.com), filtered water and a 12 oz (or larger) mug.
  • Follow the steps as outlined while the brewer goes through the process of 1) descaling and 2) rinsing.
