Are Coconuts the Future of Water Filtration? We Think So

Coffee is 99% water which is why we take our water pretty seriously here at Bruvi®! When we aimed our sights on creating a world-class single serve brewer, we knew we had to ensure we had a water filtration system to match. It’s simple, great coffee must be made with clean water for a delicious cup of joe

Why You Should Care About Water Filtration

Before we talk about water filtration, let’s talk about why filters are (usually) needed to make great brewed coffee. Most Americans have hard water which means the water coming out of your faucet likely has extra minerals in it. Hard water is typically fine to drink, but it can also produce a funky taste that doesn’t pair well with your coffee selection. Aside from taste, these minerals can cause premature degradation to your beloved coffee machine which will ultimately cost you money to repair or replace. Ok, so now that you have the backstory, we can resume.

Our Path to Coconut Water Filtration

When we first embarked on a journey to design a water filter for our Bruvi BV-01 Coffee Brewer, we took into consideration many factors. While our top priority was the quality of the water produced, we also couldn’t help but seek out a filtration method that is sustainable and fits with our environmental ethos. Hence, all roads led us to design a special coconut carbon filter that sits snug in our water reservoir to help make sure your coffee tastes just right every time.

What is Coconut Carbon Filtration and Why Do We Love It?

A coconut carbon water filtration system is designed to remove contaminants from tap water that lead to a less than desirable taste and odor. Coconut shells are an awesome material because they are a renewable source of carbon and can be harvested multiple times each year without compromising the tree in the process. Not only are they sustainable but they also have just the right size and quantity of micro-pores to make them ultra-effective at removing various size particles and pollutants. Despite having a high density of these perfect micropores, coconut shells are also incredibly hard, making them very durable when used as a filtration method. All environmental benefits aside, this filtration process creates the cleanest water of any activated carbon, so there’s that too. We love these magical filters, and we know your coffee does too!

How to Install Your Bruvi Water Filter

Bruvi Water Filter

Congrats on making the decision to buy a Bruvi brewer! No need to worry, installing your water filter is simple and easy. Follow the 3 simple steps below:

Step 1: Remove the filter from the polybag and immerse in cold tap water, soak for 5 minutes. Rinse for 1 minute after.

Step 2: Remove the water filter base from the long holder and insert your rinsed filer into the underside of the holder. Reinsert the filter base into the holder and ensure the filter is securely sealed inside.

Step 3: Slide the water filter holder into the channels in the base of the water tank and make sure it is secure.

You’re ready to go!
