The Viral Iced Coconut Water Americano + Other Summer Coffee Drinks

Have you seen the latest viral trend, the Iced Coconut Water Americano? It’s all over Tik Tok and other social media, and Food & Wine Magazine pronounced it the Coffee Drink of the Summer. The sweet, slightly salty taste of coconut water balances out the bold and subtle bitter notes of espresso, creating a well balanced and delicious drink. Plus coconut water is full of natural electrolytes so it’s great for hot and humid summer afternoons.

With one touch brewing, the Bruvi single-serve coffee system makes it easy to make this and other refreshing coffee and espresso drinks. Brew them up fresh with minimal clean up. It doesn’t get easier than that.

Stock up on your favorite espresso B-Pods, plus coconut water, the other mixers noted below and ice. Whether you’re entertaining others or just want to relax at home, here’s how to give it a shot. (Pun intended.)

Bru-Tips

  • For safety, never brew hot espresso or coffee directly into a glass cup with ice. Instead, brew the espresso into a separate cup and then pour over the glass with ice.

  • Want to skip the caffeine?  Use Wonderland Oasis Decaf espresso for any of these recipes. It’s a bold, northern Italian style espresso with subtle citrus notes but without the caffeine.

  • Entertaining a crowd?  You can brew the espresso in advance. Just brew as many Bruvi espresso B-Pods as needed for your guest list. Pour into a pitcher and store in the refrigerator overnight. Then you can set up your bar with the pre-chilled espresso, ice and other ingredients.

Iced Coconut Water Americano

  1. Pour coconut water over ice.
  2. Select your favorite Espresso B-Pod. (We suggest Mulholland Roasters Causu or LAMILL Bliss espresso for their subtle fruity notes.) Brew as 2 or 3 ounce shot.*
  3. Pour the espresso shot over the coconut water/ice.
  4. Add a twist of lime or lemon, if desired.

You can also stir a bit of honey into the espresso shot before pouring it into the coconut water if you’re looking for more sweetness.

Iced Espresso Tonic

Another great option for summertime refreshment is the espresso tonic. Super simple and just delicious when made with Bruvi.

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice, pour in tonic water.
  2. Brew up a 2 oz shot of your favorite Bruvi espresso B-Pod (we like Wonderland Euphoria espresso for this one).
  3. Pour the espresso into the tonic water and ice.

OJ Espresso

For a summertime brunch, we recommend this easy and delicious way to combine two favorite flavors - espresso and orange juice!

  1. Brew a 2 oz espresso shot, using your favorite B-Pod (Mulholland Causu with orange flavor notes is a natural here).
  2. Pour into a tall glass with ice. Pour in 6oz fresh orange juice and stir.
